The word Kaanapali means rolling cliffs. Ancient Maui aristocracy loved the pristine white sand beaches of Kaanapali with calm, soothing waves and balmy sunny days cooled by gentle, natural trade winds protected by two islands just a few miles away: Molokai and Lanai. The West Maui Mountains form a scenic panorama creating a virtual paradise for the leeward side of Maui. For many decades, it was also home to an airport practically on the beach used into the 1980s. The airport decommissioned, and the area became home to some of the worlds most gorgeous resort properties and a thriving tourist industry. Kaanapali beaches became renown as Americas Beach and listed in Conde Naste as one of the top beaches in world. Kaanapali Shores Resort emerged in the 1980s at the northern end of Kaanapali allowing both individual condo ownership with resort amenities and the benefit of professional hospitality management as a high-end resort of individually owned condos.
This jewel of a beachfront resort consists of 483 units in two buildings nine stories high on just over ten acres. Most of the condos face the ocean for beautiful views of the Pacific. Others toward the back of the resort see more of the West Maui Mountains. There are seven different floor plans from studio up to two-bedroom units. There are 50 studio one-bath units sporting 507 square feet and 142 one-bedroom, one bath units from 717 to 853 square feet. The two-bedroom units all have two bathrooms and vary from 964 to 1507 square feet. The floorplans make good use of the generous size of each type of unit. Most have good sized lanais and large master bedroom windows for gorgeous views from both. About half of them look out over the lush gardens, pools, and recreation areas out to the blue Pacific Ocean, Molokai and Lanai islands.
These condos are nicely furnished, and owners keep their units upgraded with modern countertops, appliances, and floor coverings. One of the absolute best features of Kaanapali Shores is central air conditioning included in the fixed, monthly maintenance fee. No separate utility bills! As matter of fact, everything is wrapped up into a single monthly maintenance fee all utilities, cable, resort fees, parking, free pool towel exchange. Gym membership is free for owners. All units have refrigerators, range/oven, microwave, clothes washer/dryer, and garbage disposal. The parking is great! Covered garage plus lots of outside parking areas just a short walk and elevator ride to each condo. Owners get a parking pass free and guests only pay $9 per day a very reasonable amount given what neighboring resorts charge.
Kaanapali Shores has some of the best amenities for Kaanapali Beach and all for a very reasonable price. It is all included in the maintenance fee for owners and guests do not pay a separate resort fee. These include tennis, shuffleboard, pickle ball courts with equipment available for no charge at the front desk. There are BBQ grills and picnic tables to enjoy dinner there or carry up to the condo. The gardens are well kept and there is lots of space for playing catch, frizzbie, bean bag toss, or just lounging. The spacious garden pool is great for young children and adults with changing lights, a bridge, spouting water features, and a waterfall. Right next to it is a large hot pool with whirlpool jets enough for 10-12 people.
Head toward the oceanfront for another very nice sized pool that is deeper and shaped for lap swimmers and even scuba lessons once a week. In the same area, there is another smaller jacuzzi that holds 6 to 8 people comfortably. While there, enjoy poolside bar and restaurant service, individual cabanas, lots of chaise lounges, and even tables with gas heating for evening comfort and conversation. There is a kiosk to exchange towels, rent equipment and get advice on water sports and activities up and down Kaanapali Beach. The full-service restaurant and bar at this pool has great food at reasonable prices, live music, Hawaiian entertainment making for a great time without ever leaving the resort. Sunsets are beautiful followed by lighting of the tiki lamps and birds chirping to celebrate another great day at Kaanapali Shores.
There is a convenience store, clothing/souvenir store, spa treatments, beauty shop, and gym right in the main building of the resort. Inside the large, beautifully decorated lobby there is a tour desk, coffee kiosk, library with a TV, gift shop, and childrens programs plus of course a front desk to answer questions, exchange towels after hours, and check out sports equipment.
The beach directly in front of Kaanapali Shores is smaller and depending on the tides, swells, and related weather patterns, the water can come up to the protective wall. Other times, there will be a nice beach to play on or snorkel from. Just a short walk south, there wider beach that stretches all the way to Black Rock, Whalers Village, and on toward Lahaina.
Right across the street from the resort find a major Times Supermarket grocery store, restaurants, Paradiso Pizza, Subway, clothing stores, beach equipment rental, a jazz bar and restaurant, and even an urgent care medical facility. Just up the street is a large ABC convenience store and gas station, moped rental, tackle shop, coffee shop, fish market, health food store and even a weekly farmers market.
Kaanapali Shores is right in the center of it all, including snorkeling, surfing, paddle boarding, parasailing, scuba diving, fishing, or just relaxing on the beach. Golfers are in the middle of some of the best golfing in the world! Just down the beach there is a boardwalk and access to many beautiful beach locations, parks, other resorts and restaurants. Farther down the beach is Black Rock where divers young and old dive into the balmy Pacific waters. Keep going and arrive at Whalers Village, a mall with lots of shopping, restaurants, food court, and covered parking. A short trip south is Historic Lahaina Town and all it has to offer: a harbor with fishing, whale watching, ferry, and evening cruise trips; beaches popular with swimmers, surfers, and snorkelers; the massive Banyan Tree with cool shade and ocean breezes where both locals and tourists enjoy weekly artisan markets and oftentimes, Hawaiian entertainment. There is even an outlet mall, lots of galleries and souvenir shops, restaurants, bars, movie theater, and Paia Fish Market that is both delicious and reasonably priced.
Many of the units in Kaanapali Shores are individually owned but rented out hotel-style by Aston. Many owners put their condos in the Aston rental pool to reap the rewards of their investment without any of the hassle of scheduling guests, cleaning or maintenance just block the nights for owner and guest use. Many other owners rent them on their own through online reservations services such as Airbnb or VRBO and enjoy a somewhat higher return on investment. "Went Beyond What Any Other Realtor I Know Of Would Do"
Eric was outstanding from the start in our home- buying process in Hawaii. From the beginning and throughout, Eric was always at our service with prompt, knowledgable advise and communication during the process. He helped us find the perfect home for our family with some personal video he sent us and then expertly moved us into a good position to buy the home. He also helped us during the inspection periods and with our negotiations to improve our buying confidence. We couldn't be more pleased with Eric's quality, knowledge, personality and negotiation skills. He was truly excellent.
