No matter what! DO NOT BUY those Maui Jim's Sunglasses…..until you read to this whole review.
Why would a real estate agent in Hawaii write a review about sunglasses? Well, I decided to share with the world the best things that have come out of the State of Hawaii. And I thought what a better place to start than Maui Jim's! I have always been very passionate about quality sunglasses and I wanted to share with you my story and review of Maui Jim's. I have been connoisseur (of sorts) of high-end sunglasses my whole life. It started back in the 80’s with Vuarnet. I don't know if you remember that company, but those were some really amazing (and expensive at the time!) sunglasses. This really started my personal obsession/fascination with high-end sunglasses! Nothing felt better than dropping quality glass in front of my eyes. After that I started wearing Revo’s and then Oakleys. OK, I admit it, I also had some aviator style Gold Ray Ban’s after the movie Top Gun came out.
Truth be told, I lived on Maui for 5 years and never even tried ON a pair of these sunglasses. Why? I guess I thought they were just too expensive. I did not perceive them on the level of a Revo, Ray Ban or Oakley and therefore did not justify the cost. I also did not see them in all the usual sun-glass retail outlets (which I later learned on a "60 Minutes" broadcast are all owned (and monopolized) by one company in Italy called Luxottica) Finally, I really just thought these sunglasses were just something tourists (with too much money) bought when they got bored while on vacation.
Boy was I wrong.
So why is it that all the sudden I am passionately endorsing Maui Jim's as the absolute best sunglasses money can buy?
Three simple reasons.
#1 Scratch Resistance. The lenses on my Maui Jim’s simply don't seem to scratch. I am sure it’s possible, but after a year of daily use they are still absolutely flawless. Clearly, they are very scratch resistant lenses. And let’s face it, the number one thing that renders a pair of high dollar sunglasses useless are scratches. I found most all other brands that I have owned, no matter how careful I am, they eventually get scratched.
#2 Visual Effects. I call my Maui Jim’s the “paradise” glasses. I live in paradise...Maui. So it is paradise all around us. But something special and extraordinary happens when you put on a pair of Maui Jim’s. When you look at the aqua blue water and the cobalt sky and the coral beneath the surface the colors and detail appear much more vibrant than with a naked eye, or other competing sunglasses. All of a sudden what you're looking at becomes a postcard! I know other sunglasses have polarized coatings but something extra special is happening with the Maui Jim coating!
#3 Ego & Getting Noticed! My Maui Jim’s are literally the only sunglasses I've ever owned where people go out of their way to compliment me about them and ask where I purchased them and to just to talk story about the sunglasses. It’s crazy. Keep in mind, that I have been wearing top of the line sunglasses for over 30 years!! Clearly, Maui Jim is doing something very special in the design, color, and style of their shades.
A Big Mahalo to Maui Jim for putting out such a quality & Luxottica independent product!! Not to mention, founded right here in Lahaina, on the shores of Maui Hawaii.
