About Opukea
Sweet, sweet Opukea! Maui has been famous for its large, strong, superior variety of sweet sugarcane. Some say is no ka oi, the best! So it is with Opukea, one of the best places to live on the West Side, the best side, of Maui.
D.R. Horton, a highly-respected builder on Maui, finished Opukea in 2008 with seven buildings housing a total of 114 condominiums in Lahaina.
Choose from three floor plans: The Ono, 50 units with two bedrooms, two baths from 1,246 to 1,269 square feet; Kopa'awith 58 three bedrooms and two bath units with a whopping1,332 to 1,373 square feet; and, Momona, 6 units featuring a very generous four bedrooms three baths and 1,893square feet. Most of the lanais (porches and balconies) are about 125 square feet except the four bedroom units sport two large lanais totaling 424 square feet. And, one of those bedrooms is perfect for a home office. Units are deeded Fee Simple and may be rented out longer term.
The floorplans are spacious and open and private when it comes to the bedrooms. They include full kitchens with dishwasher, refrigerator, range, microwave, and individual washer and dryer for the laundry. And yes, they are air conditioned! Even bring your pets.
Outside there is a large recreation area, BBQs, and a swimming pool. And, it is just a short walk to the beach! Opukea is very close to lots of shopping possibilities in Lahaina Gateway and Cannery Malls with major grocery and drug stores, food court, Starbucks, and even the future home of Ace hardware. It is close to the Lahaina Bypass for easy access to Lahainaluna schools and points south of Lahaina without the traffic. It is in the center of all yet designed to be private and secure.
All along the highway to the north and south are numerous beach parks to the south Baby Beach in Lahaina is not far and of course, north are all the other famous West Maui beaches from world-class Kaanapali Beaches to Kahana, Napili, Kapalua, and Honolua Beach. The whole area is a mecca for snorkeling, scuba, stand-up paddle boarding, surfing, fishing, or just plain old sunbathing. There are many golf courses catering to golfers from beginners to pro. Take a romantic dinner cruise from Kaanapali or Lahaina, dine and get entertained at one of the areas Luaus. There is a enough going on in West Maui to keep retirees and families busy day and night. And, Opukea is a sweet way to enjoy it all!
Lahaina has long been a full time home base on the west side, with most daily needs close by. The August 2023 wildfire destroyed much of historic Lahaina Town, including many of the Front Street shops, restaurants and harbor area landmarks.
