Lahaina Roads is a very historical name as a Pacific Ocean channel where the surrounding islands of Maui, Lanai, and Molokai create a sheltered anchorage that was even considered at one time an alternative to Pearl Harbor. Today, it creates a wonderful, sheltered ocean experience for Lahaina, its beaches, and a peaceful, laid back resort called Lahaina Roads.
Lahaina Roads is a single five story building, with only 42 units right on the ocean and just north of the historic Lahaina Town area. Built in 1969, Lahaina Roads has thirty-two 1 bedroom condos with 640 square feet and spacious 96 square foot lanais (balconies); six 2 bedroom units with 758 square feet and 91 square foot lanais; and three penthouse 2 bedroom units of 1297 square feet with very large lanais in the neighborhood of 500 square feet.
They have a refrigerator, dishwasher, range/microwave, washer/dryer, cable, plus there is covered parking. There are recreation areas, meeting rooms, BBQs, and picnic areas. Stretch out by the heated oceanfront swimming pool and enjoy Molokai and Lanai island views and peaceful sounds of the surf.
Very near to Lahaina Roads is the old Mala Wharf Pier, a popular scuba diving location and where sailboats and power boats are launched and moored. It is a perfect spot to watch whales from December to March and green sea turtles just about any time.
Very nearby are westside Maui beaches like Puu Noa - Lahainas Baby Beach great for kids and adults, alike. There is an exposed reef that creates shallow areas away from the waves making it safer to let children play and run. And, it offers less protected areas great for surfing, body boarding, stand up paddle boarding, and snorkeling.
Lahaina Cannery Mall is nearby with a major grocery store, a drug store and local shops. To the south, much of Front Street was lost in the August 2023 wildfire and is rebuilding.
Lahaina was the Hawaiian Kingdom's capital long ago and a major 19th century whaling port. The August 2023 wildfire destroyed much of historic Lahaina Town, including many of the Front Street shops, restaurants and harbor area landmarks. The famous banyan tree survived and is regrowing, and the town is rebuilding. Ask us about current conditions around Lahaina Roads. The sunsets from this stretch of coast are still gorgeous.
Lahaina Roads is also on the way to the world-class Kaanapali beach. Just a bit north there are golf courses, oceanfront spas and restaurants, Whalers Village shopping mall, and a lot of beautiful beach. Stroll along the sandy beach or on the very well-kept boardwalk or make it a favorite for jogging. There are public showers along the way to wash off the sand. It is one of the best reasons to settle on the west side of Maui. And Lahaina Roads is poised between these two jewels of the Pacific Lahaina and Kaanapali.
