Kihei homes vary a lot from one neighborhood to the next. A few things are worth checking on almost every one.
Heat, Sun and Wind
Kihei is hot and dry, with steady afternoon trade winds. Look at shade, cooling and which way the lanai faces, and ask about the age of the air conditioning.
Ohanas and Additions
Plenty of Kihei homes have an ohana or a converted garage. Confirm what was permitted, since unpermitted space can affect financing, insurance and resale.
Near the Water
Homes on the makai streets are close to the beach parks but can sit in a flood zone or tsunami evacuation zone. Homes up the hill trade that for views and a short drive to the beach.
Everyday Convenience
Kihei has groceries, schools, restaurants and the beach parks close by, and it's about a half hour drive to Kahului Airport, so it works well for full time living.

A few, mostly on the streets off South Kihei Road. Homes close to the water can fall in a flood zone or the Special Management Area, so check both before you make an offer, and get insurance quotes early.
