Living in Hana
Hana town has the basics: a general store, a health center, a school, a small airport and a few places to eat. Anything more usually means the long drive to Kahului, so most residents plan big shopping trips and keep a well stocked pantry.
The payoff is a way of life that's hard to find anywhere else in Hawaii. Hamoa Beach, Waianapanapa State Park and the Pools of Oheo in Kipahulu are all nearby, and the community is tight knit.
Buying a Home in Hana
Water and Power
Many Hana properties rely on catchment or a private water system, and some run on solar with battery backup. Ask for details on both and have them inspected.
Building and Repairs
Materials and trades have to come a long way, so repairs and remodels cost more and take longer than in Central Maui. Factor that into your offer.
Title and Access
Older Hana parcels can come with unusual access, easements or kuleana rights. A careful title review is worth the time.

Does this page include Nahiku, Kipahulu or Keanae?
No. Those are separate Maui MLS areas. This page shows homes in the Hana area only, and we can set up a search for the rest of East Maui if you'd like.
How long is the drive from Kahului to Hana?
Plan on two to three hours or more on the Hana Highway, which has hundreds of curves and many one lane bridges. Commuter flights into Hana Airport are another option.
Does this page include Hana land?
