Read the House Rules
Pet rules live in each association's declaration, bylaws and house rules. Ask for the current versions early in escrow and read the pet section closely.
Size, Number and Type
Many Maui associations limit how many pets you can have, how much they weigh or what kind they are. Some allow cats but not dogs.
Owners vs Renters
Some buildings allow pets for owners but not for renters or vacation guests. If you plan to rent the unit, check both sets of rules.
Bringing a Pet to Hawaii
Dogs and cats coming to Hawaii have to meet the State's rabies quarantine requirements. Start the paperwork months before your move.
