The Fujii Bakery and residence was built in 1943 - alongside the main highway in Wailea. The Old Mamalahoa Highway connected all of the Hamakua Coast on the eastside of the Big Island. Each town along the coast included small mom and pop businesses like the Fujii Bakery, small convenience stores, and gas stations. This little village (once nestled between cane fields) still has that small country atmosphere. A Bed & Breakfast establishment, (down the road), sports a museum like feel with art and events for the community and the next door residence still display the old gas pumps of days gone by - when life was simpler. This 28,453 sq ft agricultural lot is fairly level with the deep, rich soil of the Hamakua coast. The Fujii Bakery has seen better days, but with its 10' ceilings and over 2200 sq feet of interior space and storage, it has potential. A baseball park and tennis courts are also just steps away.
